We're on the " Discerning bride" website!

Now, I must say talking in to a camera is a lot harder that it looks ! Sounds funny but not talking directly to someone who answers back is a little awkward. I am not that comfortable talking about my business either.. I don't know why.. perhaps because I am not much of a "go get them" sales person. Talking in to a camera is not even like "Tweeting" on twitter, that is easy!  On Twitter I pretty much think nobody really is looking other than my girlfriend over at Oleander in T.O. or my brother so I can babble about what I am doing with ease.
Discerning Bride is a new and growing website showcasing local companies hand chosen in the wedding industry. The website features videos of vendors so you can "meet them" before actually making an appointment. However I think I may have liked it a bit better if someone was interviewing me.. that might have made me more comfortable. What can I say, I am a Canadian girl through and through.. I am not much into talking about myself :)  You'll also have to excuse the uhhmmmm's since I don't talk about my business much I had a hard time coming up with things to say. I guess since I work with flowers all day long I don't really think that would be interesting to other people !

Now you may be interested to know many bridal websites often charge a fee for being reviewed.. you can be charged up to $2,000.00 to be featured or recommended on a website. I am not a big fan of this because mediocre companies can pay the fee and receive a "glowing" review when the really are not a company that "glows" at all.
The Discerning Bride staff have worked with many vendors over the years and they have chosen companies found to be of high standard ( makin me blush). You will be happy to know Discerning Bride does not charge a fee to be "reviewed or featured".
I could not buy a great review on Discerning Bride even if I tried ! LOL.
Okay, Okay.. enough with the disclaimer
Here is the link to the site, be gentle with me :)

Buffet tables!

What do you do with those?? For weddings, for showers, for engagement parties, whatever occasion don't forget the impact of one impeccably placed floral arrangement.
Where is this impeccably placed arrangement to go? with the food of course!! The buffet table is the decorative focal point of your event, everybody will visit it ( at least once) so any floral decor is going to be noticed!
During a reception you will have a few different buffet type moments, the booze buffet at the beginning of the reception, the antipasto bar, the actual buffet, the dessert buffet, candy buffet and the midnight buffet (you may be having one or more at your wedding).
Your focal buffet arrangement can be moved to each one of these "buffet moments" getting every pennies worth of value out of it!
Something tall is wonderful for bringing your theme colours to your table service and garnering much attention to your "attention to detail". A fresh floral arrangement adds a rich and luxurious detail to your celebration.
For showers, engagement parties and special events which will take place outside a traditional hall, a buffet table arrangement is sure to make your event a classy memory for all who attend.
Often the (not yet adorned) buffet table is located in the room your will be celebrating in. This is a great chance to centre your decor for maximum impact. It is better to cluster your decor rather than spread it out all over the room. One decorated focal table is enough in a large room and will save you $ at the end of the day. Many showers I have attend are often in homes, which these day's are increasingly more open concept.  We are pretty much in the same "great room" for the whole afternoon. This can make decorating a cinch !

So girls, when planning for a friends event or even your own, don't forget the impact of one perfectly placed fresh floral arrangement !
Below you will find a foto of our recent order, a shower buffet table arrangement for a baby girl.
Our show stopping focal arrangement is just under 3 ft tall to capture attention and encourage those Oooo's and Ahhh's that we love to hear. We have paired 2 smaller bud vases to compliment the large arrangement and they will be placed no more than 15 inches away from our focal arrangement, this is so they will not be lost on the table.

Enjoy!

And we were a part of it!

Thursday March 11th we rose early to deliver and set up 11 floral arrangements for the grand opening of the David Braley cardiac centre In Hamilton.
Niche catering invited us to join them and we were so glad they did !
We created 3 large cascading arrangements topping tall clear glass vases. Each vase was filled with pussy willow, 3 pink tulips and a moss base. The topping arrangement was designed in a large clear glass bowl filled with moss, orchids, roses, tulips, chincher, aspidistra and hanging amaranthus. The flowers were white with green accents.
One of our 3 large design adorned the cake table on the main floor where the ceremony took place. 2  of our other large arrangements were placed on drink and serving stations through out the building.
Niche catering dazzled the guests with tantalizing aromas from cooking stations spread out along the main floor and we embellished with with our 8 smaller arrangements comprised on the theme flowers: tulips, willow, orchids & chincher.
It was an exciting day for us and for Hamilton.
We are blessed :)

To find out more please read and excerpt from the Hamilton Spec.
The David Braley Cardiac, Vascular and Stroke Research Institute, a six-storey, $100-million complex. Amid much pomp and ceremony -- there were nine speeches, tours, videos, ribbon-cutting, cake-cutting, press kits and BlackBerries galore -- the crown jewel of Hamilton Health Sciences was officially opened yesterday. Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement was on hand for the opening ceremonies.
It's a centre for research efforts in heart and stroke prevention, diagnosis and treatment that puts Hamilton at the forefront in a collaborative effort that involves medical researchers in 1,500 centres in 83 countries.
The complex is located on the Hamilton General Hospital site. The building is named after Hamilton business leader David Braley, who donated $10 million for the project.
"It's a terrific day for the City of Hamilton and our community," said Braley, president of Orlick Industries Limited.
"Hamilton is changing and it's public/private partnerships that are making everything go."
The city's newest medical facility will house the Population Health Research Institute and the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute. Between the two, some 500 medical staff will work in the building, which features labs, meeting rooms, offices and some of the most advanced computers in the world. Many of the staff previously toiled in 12 substandard and antiquated research labs across the city.
It resembles a gala art gallery more than a medical facility. But Dr. Salim Yusuf, the executive director of the Population Health Research Institute, likens the facility to a bridge -- a structure that links cutting-edge research to practical bedside treatment.
Work conducted here just north of Barton Street will help to prevent strokes and heart attacks and provide better treatment for those who suffer them. This made-in-Hamilton project will improve the lives of literally billions of people, Yusuf said.
"Let's put it this way, heart disease and strokes are the No. 1 cause of death and disability in the world. Approximately 35 per cent of people in the world will eventually get heart disease or strokes and that is 35 per cent of 7 billion now."
It's appropriate the complex is located in the middle of the city's industrial heartland, Yusuf said.
"Hamilton is a city of real people and we're in the thick of it. I view the steel mills from my office and that is not only perfectly fine, that's a picture of the transition that will take place in this city in the next few decades."
Murray Martin, president and CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences, said the new complex puts the city on par with similar cardiovascular research centres at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and Oxford in the United Kingdom.
"It's a special day in the history of Hamilton," Martin said in his opening remarks.
